Madeleine Gay has been named as the female winemaker of the year in Switzerland. She is a cellarmaster at Provins Valais, and is one of the best-known women in the wine business in Switzerland.
At the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse, an independent wine competition organised by wine magazine Vinum and the Vinea association, numerous other awards were also announced. The prize for the absolutely highest marks for a wine went to the Vins des Chevaliers winery in Salgesch. Their red 2006 Chevalier Rouge is currently the "best wine in Switzerland". The trophy for the "Prix Bio Suisse" went to Edy Geiger from St. Gallen, and the best Pinot Noir was produced by Hansruedi Adank from the Bündner Herrschaft.
