The 2008 vintage in Australia has turned out much larger than had been expected, the final figure shows growth of 31% compared to the previous vintage.
The figure of 1,83 million tonnes of grapes shows the Australians have brought in a much larger harvest than in 2007, contrary to all forecasts, in fact they have exceeded the long-term average by some five per cent. The general expectation had been that because of the drought and several other problems the harvest would be significantly smaller than in the previous vintage.(WF)
