Trend towards City Wine?

Readers letter (so far 0)

The first so-called City Winery is to be opened in New York this autumn. This is a type of club in which members can produce their own wine under professional guidance.

Membership in the "Winemakers Club" includes courses and advice, tastings and naturally grapes from all parts of the country and from South America; barriques and other equipment are also provided. Annual membership fees are likely to be in the US$ 5.000 - 10.000 range.

The City Winery concept has already been successfully established in other parts of the USA. In New York, of course, grapes from within the city precincts will also be available; the vineyard at the Staten Island Botanical Garden is expected to provide its first crop in 2012. (WF)
