Wine-growing region (GI) at the southern Tipp of the federal state of Victoria in Australia, part of the Port Philip Zone. It is located on Port Philip Bay on the Mornington Peninsula, the principal town is Red Hill South. This is one of the youngest wine-growing regions in Australia, and one of thise with the fastest rate of growth. The area provides a fascinating mixture of beaches offering water sports facilities, green bushlands and vineyards. The vineyard area totals around 1.000 hectares. The most important red varieties planted are Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, the leading white varieties are Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. The proximity to the ocean provides a cool, windy climate with a long period of vegetation and a late harvesting season. Ther are around 40 wineries, the best known ones include Dromana Estate, Elgee Park, King´s Creek, Massoni, Merricks Estate, Moorooduc Estate, Paringa Estate, Stonier´s (Petaluma), Tuck´s Ridge and Willow Creek.
