The author

Marcus Hofschuster began his intensive study of wine as a teenager. In the past 18 years, his travels and countless tastings have enabled him to build a store of profound knowledge about the world of wine. The opportunity of tasting a few old Rieslings from the cellar of a friend at the end of the 80's kindled his interest in German wine. During his time as a wine merchant in Schwabach and Nürnberg he was an enthusiastic promoter of top-class German growths.

It was during this time that the idea was born of producing a comprehensive annual guide to the best German wines and producers. It was then still to take a few years before the idea could be put into practice, but since 1999 Marcus Hofschuster has given up his position in the wine trade, in order to devote his attention exclusively to this wine guide.
